MOGHA – 20

My Old Gong Has Amnesia

Chapter 20

Translator: Keisotsuna

Ye Shanshan changed his clothes and went downstairs. At the thought that he might be sent back home by Gong Yue and take back his vacation in passing, he felt very sad and aggrieved.

Gong Yue sat at the long table, eating his breakfast, wearing a white shirt with emerald cufflinks. Ye Shanshan saw it at a glance. He clearly remembered that he was the one who gave these cufflinks to Gong Yue before—— was this His Majesty’s implicitly telling him that he didn’t care about the various ways he made a fool of himself?

Thinking about it this way, Ye Shanshan felt that the road ahead was bright. He made a “jiayou” gesture to himself before proceeding to sit beside Gong Yue in high spirits. Just as he was pondering how to say that he wanted to go out for a stroll, Gong Yue spoke first.

“After breakfast, Lin Xiatian and Wayne will accompany you to play. You can go anywhere you want.”

Hey! He didn’t expect that Gong Yue had already made early preparations for himself. Ye Shanshan’s eyes lit up in an instant, “Mm-hmm, good, good! Ge, you’re the best!” He recalled that Wayne was the third member of Gong Yue’s elite assistant team. Assistant number 3 was a native of New York, so Gong must’ve intended to let him come and be his guide, right?

Although this sentence was popping up a little more often recently, Gong Yue still liked to listen to it. He asked, “Is the pocket money enough?”

“There’s a lot.” Ye Shanshan even opened his arms and made a gesture of holding a big watermelon, “In the first place, you already gave me the secondary card for your black card and told me to swipe it as I please.” He couldn’t help sighing, to swipe wantonly and so on, truly the style of a particular overbearing president!

However, he did not need to spend so much money before. After all, he was fully provided with food, clothing, housing, and transportation, and had no opportunity to squander money like dirt. To the extent that, afterwards, Steward Hawke would put 1000 yuan of cash in his wallet every day, yet Ye Shanshan had no place to spend it—— so sad. * squander money like dirt : (idiom) Means to be extravagant or spend money as if it was worth nothing. Can also be translated as to “spend money like water”.

In fact, he also wanted to experience the feeling of being a local tyrant who would say “except for this one, this one and this one, I want everything else”. It would definitely be very cool. But he already had so many things in the cloakroom, which was enough to make him feel frightened, so he completely gave up the idea of buying more.

Where else could you find a little lover who saves money for the gold master? He thought that Gong Yue could paste seven or eight little red flowers to commend him. * little red flowers : Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this refers to the reward stickers usually in kindergarten class. I’ve searched and they even got this reward chart thing where they stick the stickers on, and if my guess is right, the “red flower” sticker should mean very good or something along those lines. So the more stickers, the better?

Gong Yue’s hand that was holding his cup paused. From waking up until now, a plethora of work occupied the greater part of his mind, which was why he didn’t even notice the issue with Ye Shanshan’s pocket money. Fortunately, there was no case where the money was not enough to spend and he (YSS) also had his secondary card, which was only a matter of course.

“En, you can buy whatever you want. I will have two bodyguards accompany you and help you hold things.”

As a result, in these past two days, Ye Shanshan’s Weibo which had been silent for several days was like a wild dog blindly running around in the wilderness. It was updated twenty or thirty times very intensively, and every time, it was a picture with nine grids.

People have already left comments one by one in Weibo’s comment area and everyone found that Ye Shanshan’s trip could only be described as busy—— busy strolling around New York, eating, strolling, buying, buying, and buying. The most hateful thing was, every time Ye Shanshan ate something, he would take a photo, collect nine of these photos and upload them all. It was simply asking for a beating.

“Late-night poisoning is unforgivable.” * poisoning : 放毒 – Literally to put poison in food, water, etc. Figuratively, it also means to make vicious remarks or spread poisonous ideas. However, in this context, “poisoning” is neither of the above meanings. I assume it’s an internet slang used to express the netizen’s bitterness of being bombarded by food pictures at inconvenient hours, since it’s inducing their own hunger or cravings, which usually can’t be satisfied at that time. (Translator: No, really, I’m not speaking from personal experience when reading gourmet novels–)

“Landlord, is it really good for you to let go of yourself as soon as you finished your closed-door study?”

“If you release more poison, I really will unfollow you! ——When I was hungry in the middle of the night, I suddenly saw the landlord’s Weibo and turned black in minutes. By the way, I didn’t know I was following a food blogger?” * turned black : Means to convert into a black powder/fan (hater).

“Since you dare to send food pictures and landscape pictures, then I dare you to send more selfies! Could it be that you’ve eaten until you’ve become fat? It’s okay. You’re also beautiful when you’re fat!”

Looking at all kinds of anguished wailing in the comment area, Ye Shanshan contentedly turned off his phone and prepared to sort out his spoils of war in these past few days. * spoils of war : 战利品 – Literally spoils of war / war trophies (definition: any profits extracted as the result of winning a war). In this context, it refers to the stuff that Shanshan bought after a lot of so-called “battles” (aka, the struggle of shopping and choosing what item you will actually purchase over many others, even though you just really wanna buy everything).

After having fun for two days, Ye Shanshan felt that he had played enough and went home consciously without being called to by Gong Yue. He asked Steward Hawke for a large basket, put a variety of stuff in it, and then, like a little snail, he carried it to Gong Yue’s study.

Gong Yue heard a knock on the door and said, “Come in.” But after waiting for a while, there was no movement from the other side. After thinking about it, he got up and opened the door directly, only to find Ye Shanshan carrying a large basket, which was full to the brim, standing at the doorway and smiling at himself.

Removing his line of sight away from Ye Shanshan, Gong Yue moved his body to let the person come in without any intention to lend a hand—— he found that Ye Shanshan’s appearance every time he was puffing and moving things around was somewhat adorable.

Putting a basket of things on the ground, Ye Shanshan directly sat down on the carpet with his legs crossed and raised his head to look at Gong Yue. With a tone as if he was sharing a precious treasure, “Look, look! I bought gifts for you!” His words were filled with complacency.

Gifts? Gong Yue walked over following his words. Of course, he did not sit on the carpet like Ye Shanshan.

Ye Shanshan was not bothered by this and enthusiastically began to present his loots.

“This is a wild flower picked by the roadside. The purple one is very beautiful, but it’s a little dry. The is the cotton candy I bought from the amusement park, there are three colors! Ah, it’s a little deformed, but I think it should still be edible? This is a rainbow candy I bought in a cake shop. I ate it and thought I’d buy one back for you. There is also a tie, ah- this, this, I made the cufflinks out of clay, haha! Doesn’t it look good?! And this ring is made of straw……” * cotton candy : 棉花糖 – This can be translated as either cotton candy or marshmallow. I’m not exactly sure which one is being referred to here.

Ye Shanshan took out the things inside the basket and soon laid out every piece, like a street vendor selling wholesale commodities.

When he finally finished his presentation and looked up at Gong Yue, he found that the other party was looking at him with a deep and meaningful look in his eyes. Ye Shanshan felt a little strange but did not think too much about it. Scratching his somewhat messy hair, he asked Gong Yue, “How about it? Do you like it?”

Gong Yue looked at the dimples that emerged from the corner of the other’s mouth and felt his heart gradually becoming soft, just like the cotton candy that Ye Shanshan had previously taken out. Finally, he couldn’t resist and stroked Ye Shanshan’s soft and fluffy hair. “I like it very much. I like everything you bought.”

The attack power of stroking the hair, enhanced version 2.0, was immense and Ye Shanshan’s heart felt like it was a firecracker that had blown up, making his head spin in giddiness. Facing Gong Yue, his smile became even more foolish. He pushed the things on the ground, “Then, you have to eat the cotton candy first. You can’t leave it for too long…”

As soon as he was finished speaking, he didn’t even know what he was talking about a moment ago. He could only feel the temperature of Gong Yue’s palm on his head, and his smile was more and more daft.

Hey, the Great Demon King Gong Yue’s stroking the head killing move was really comfortable!

But, in the end, Gong Yue just took a bite meaningfully, and the rest went into Ye Shanshan’s stomach.

When Ye Shanshan ate the cotton candy, he liked to stick out the tip of his tongue to lick the cotton candy before rolling it in his mouth. He didn’t know if it was his illusion, but he always felt that when he was licking the cotton candy, Gong Yue would always look at himself with an indescribable look in his eyes. Does Gong Yue actually want to eat marshmallows? Was he only pretending he didn’t want to eat it so he could give it to himself?

The eyes are the window to the soul, so the expression in his eyes would definitely not be deceiving. Ye Shanshan suddenly regretted eating the cotton candy. After thinking for a moment, he shifted around in guilt and ultimately moved to the side of Gong Yue’s leg, raising his head and blinked, “Ge, you are the best to me!”

The sweet and sticky note at the end of his words instantly spun several circles in Gong Yue’s heart. * T/N : By “sweet and sticky note at the end of his words”, it meant the “~” which shows in Shanshan’s tone as he said: “Ge, you are the best to me[~]!” (Aka, the tone where you deliberately elongate the final syllable in your words to sound particularly cute or coquettish. It was hard to translate it enough to make sense :3)

Discovering that the other side’s expression had softened a little, Ye Shanshan praised himself in his heart—— Hehe, amusing Gong Yue and making him happy was precisely his field of expertise!

In the following days after, Gong Yue was dealing with his work on the computer while Ye Shanshan took a box of jigsaw puzzles and play on the ground, engrossed in his task. Just when he was kneeling and constantly changing his posture, he suddenly heard Gong Yue calling him, “Ye Shanshan.”

“Ah?” Ye Shanshan looked over in confusion, still holding a piece of a jigsaw puzzle in his hand, “Are you hungry? Do you want some desserts?”

Of course, you should want them, this was his answer from the bottom of his heart.

“.…..” Gong Yue actually wanted to ask him, “Do you want to take a break?” but this sentence was suddenly stuck. Just as he was about to refuse, he saw Ye Shanshan stood up very flexibly then ran out of the study. After a while, his voice was heard, “Steward uncle, Gong Yue is hungry. He wants to eat desserts!”

Gong Yue raised his hand and pinched his eyebrows, suddenly worried about Ye Shanshan’s health. He really wanted to know how he restrained Ye Shanshan’s sweet tooth before his amnesia because he couldn’t say no to Ye Shanshan’s expectant eyes.

Just like now.

Within a few minutes, Ye Shanshan ran back and sat on the carpet with a cake in his hand.

Gong Yue thought it over and prepared to reason with him, “Only primitive humans living in grasslands and forests in prehistoric times would quickly eat a lot of high-calorie food because they were afraid of starving to death. In fact, this is not good for the health……” Before he could finish speaking, he saw that Ye Shanshan had already fed a spoonful of cream in his mouth, and he was multitasking as he nodded his head at him while listening to his words in agreement.

Gong Yue couldn’t resist it. He stretched out his finger and wiped the cream on the corner of Ye Shanshan’s mouth. The sensation of the skin on his fingertips was even more delicate than the cream. As if demons and gods were at work, Gong Yue brought the finger stained with cream on his lips then licked the cream into his mouth with the tip of his tongue. * demons and gods at work : (idiom) unexpected happenings / a curious coincidence / at the behest of supernatural powers / unexplainable event

It’s sweet.

Ye Shanshan found that Gong Yue had eaten the cream that was scraped from his mouth and, after a few moments, he felt particularly moved. Sure enough, Gong Yue also likes sweets very much, but he has to endure it in order to give it to himself and adhere to his nutritional aesthetics.

At this moment, he felt very distressed that Gong Yue did not have it easy, so he scooped a large spoonful of cake into his mouth and vaguely said, “It’s okay. I’ll eat more and take it as if you’ve eaten it too!”

Gong Yue originally did not know how to explain his actions just now, but now he felt like there was nothing to explain.

After eating the cake, Ye Shanshan seemed to be enlightened and had finished an eight-thousand pieces jigsaw puzzle in a few hours. He was about to take a picture of the finished product with his mobile phone and send it to Weibo to show off when he realized that he couldn’t find his mobile phone.

He was too lazy to think about where the phone had been dropped, so Ye Shanshan pulled Gong Yue’s clothes and said, “Ge, please call my mobile phone.”

Gong Yue nodded and directly pressed the shortcut key 1. Within a few seconds, Ye Shanshan’s mobile phone rang at the foot of his chair—— it happened to be covered by the rolled carpet.

Seeing that Gong Yue was about to bend down and pick it up, Ye Shanshan suddenly remembered a very, very serious problem in these circumstances. He abruptly stood up, “Ge, wait, don’t——”

But it was still too late.

Gong Yue stooped to pick up the mobile phone, looked at the long line of contact memo displayed on the lit screen, then looked at the despairing Ye Shanshan with a smile that was not like a smile. “Mt. Everest’s Cold and Paralyzed Great Demon King Gold Master, huh?”

  2. 8000 pieces in a few hours?!?! A five thousand piece puzzle takes me about a month and a half to a few months to complete. A nine thousand piece puzzle took me a year and a half to complete. How? How?!?!
