My Old Gong Has Amnesia

Chapter 22

Translator: Keisotsuna

Gong Yue held Ye Shanshan in his arms and went to the bedroom. Then, he went straight to the cloakroom and put the person down. “After we change our clothes, we will go out for a meal.”

The great demon king’s work efficiency had always been very high, so before Ye Shanshan could react to the sudden turn of events, Gong Yue had already handed him a matching pair of coat and pants.

After taking the clothes, Ye Shanshan asked, “Are you really not mad anymore?”

Ei, the plot is developing a little too fast, I can’t keep up with the rhythm!

“I’m not mad.” Gong Yue solemnly repeated it, “I’m really not mad anymore.” His eyes fell on Ye Shanshan. “Sorry, I haven’t spoken to you for so long.”

It made you sad.

Ye Shanshan blinked. Then, he asked the most important question in his mind, “Can I still keep that name?”

Although he felt that this question might be seeking death, he had always felt that only the height of Mount Everest could describe the degree of the “facially paralyzed and aloof great demon king,” so did not want to change it unless it was a last resort.

Gong Yue was silent for a few seconds before he finally compromised, “Yes.” Even if he felt that the words “gold master” were an eyesore, but it made Ye Shanshan happy.

After reaching an agreement, Ye Shanshan, who was especially easy to coax, happily prepared to change his clothes and go out to eat.

However, as soon as he unbuttoned his coat, Ye Shanshan found that Gong Yue had turned his back. He was a little bemused. Wasn’t it said that men should turn their backs when women change their clothes? Looking down, Ye Shanshan scratched his head—— I really am a man, ah!

Only, the current Ye Shanshan couldn’t understand at all Gong Yue’s “good intentions” and “ self-control ”. * self control : The actual words in the raws are “情难自禁” which translates roughly to “the difficulty of controlling/enduring one’s emotions/passion”.

Around two o’clock in the afternoon, Ye Shanshan was finally taken to the place to eat. Although he had eaten a small cake to satisfy his hunger inside the car, he had always been restless thinking of what he had not eaten . For some late lunches, he was still full of enthusiasm. * he had always been restless thinking of what he had not eaten : 没吃到的永远在马蚤动 – Literally and roughly translated to “what was not eaten is forever a stirring horse flea”. According to my research, “horse flea” is a metaphor that roughly means being “restless/turbulent”. The explanation I found is that horses have hooves and can not scratch their bodies, so they can only lie on their backs to scratch the itch caused by the fleas. (I’m not sure of the authenticity of this.) Figuratively, I assumed that the whole sentence itself should mean that no matter how much you eat, you are always restless or itching to eat the next meal, or something of similar meaning. (This was really hard to paraphrase well. If you have your own ideas or suggestions about this sentence, you can share them in the comments!)

The restaurant chosen by Gong Yue was very distinctive. The ground was specially made transparent. You could see the sparkling seawater drawn from under the floor, as well as the corals and seaweeds, which made people feel like they were walking on the surface of the sea.

Ye Shanshan couldn’t walk as soon as he saw it. He squatted directly on the ground and looked at the fishes wandering in the water in surprise. He looked around and discovered that there were no other guests in the empty hall except for the team of bodyguards who followed them.

Such being the case—— Ye Shanshan began to brazenly make a fool of himself. After standing up, he ran back and forth on the floor several times, thinking of himself as the little mermaid prince drifting with the wind and floating on the waves of the sea.

Sure enough, Lang Shanshan still belongs to the sea! * Lang Shanshan : A play on words. If you recall, “Lang Shanshan” is the ‘favorite’ name Ye Shanshan chose for himself (but was refuted by Gong Yue). Lang Shanshan also means “sparkling waves”.

After he was finished running, a thin layer of sweat came out on his forehead and his originally white skin was flushed a little pink.

Just as Ye Shanshan was about to wipe it off with his sleeves casually, Gong Yue pulled him over and took out a beige checkered handkerchief, then proceeded to carefully wipe the sweat on his forehead.

Feeling the gentle force and soft touch, Ye Shanshan thought that it was indeed more comfortable than pulling his sleeve to wipe his sweat. Thinking in this way, he gave Gong Yue a big smile.

As for losing his face—— anyway, he had already lost face to Gong Yue a hundred or two hundred times. He was already indifferent.

After he sat down, Ye Shanshan took out his mobile phone and took a photo to upload. He finally remembered that he had promised Zheng Dong that he would post on Weibo every day.

“The floor is so beautiful. Eating here feels like I’ve contracted the seafood of the entire sea!”

Within two minutes of uploading it, a lot of comments came out.

“Landlord, can you tell me a little bit of your schedule? So that we can have something to look forward to. I’ve already brushed your variety show a dozen or hundred times and I’m really hungry\thirsty!”

Ye Shanshan originally wanted to reply, but then he suddenly realized that he didn’t seem to have a schedule to tell them —— after shooting “The Legend of the Swordsman,” he had no further announcements.

Suddenly feeling very guilty, what to do.

As a result, Ye Shanshan pretended not to see the comment and directly turned off his phone then poured himself half a glass of watermelon juice. After drinking, his eyes lit up, “Ge, this tastes good!”

Gong Yue, who was looking at the menu, raised his head and replied, “Is it?” Then he stretched his hand and brought over the glass of watermelon juice that Ye Shanshan had drunk on and took a sip. “En, it’s delicious.”

In deadly earnest.

Ye Shanshan didn’t feel that it was wrong for two people to drink from the same glass and he even looked a little proud of himself. “Isn’t it? Trust me and you can drink fresh and delicious watermelon juice.”

Afterwards, he pulled another glass for himself, only to find that Gong Yue would always snatch what he head drunk on.

After being robbed three or four times, Ye Shanshan scratched his head—— could it be that Gong Yue was worried about unsafe watermelon juice?

He really had the ability to identify whether bad drugs were mixed into the food through the smell alone. Thinking about it this way, Ye Shanshan felt that it made sense, so he consciously handed Gong Yue the drink which he had taken a sip of and let the other party rest assured.

After drinking three glasses, Ye Shanshan felt satisfied and wiped his mouth with a napkin, saying “I thought we were going to eat at Manhattan, but I did not expect to travel so far away. But the environment here is so quiet and there are not many people. I feel like it’s hard to find such a sparsely populated and scenic place in New York, and I don’t know if the food here is good or bad……”

Ye Shanshan unconsciously turned on the chattering mode again, mainly because he was flustered and panicked these past two days, and was about to be stifled sick.

He felt that if Gong Yue had not talked to him for a few more days, he would really have no choice but to take out his trump card —— reciting either the Great Compassion Mantra or the back-to-back multiplication table to Gong Yue when he was sleeping, otherwise he would not have the strength to live on. * trump card : 绝招 – Can also be translated as “unexpected tricky move/master stroke/finishing blow”. May be a reference to combat games where players used the character’s special skill to reverse the tides of the battle or deal the finishing blow.

Not letting a chatty person talk was like forcing a sow to climb up a tree, which was against the law of nature.

It was against the law of nature to stop a chatty person from chattering, just as it was unnatural to force a sow to climb a tree.

Gong Yue patiently listened to him and responded briefly from time to time. Ye Shanshan was a little surprised. Gong Yue actually chatted with him so cooperatively, he could eat this set for a lifetime, ah!

After a high-efficiency output of a few hundred words, Ye Shanshan felt a little thirsty after talking too much and drank another half a glass of watermelon juice. His sitting posture loosened, his feet flicked and he was almost humming.

“What do you want to eat?”

Ye Shanshan returned to his senses. He thought about it for a moment and directly sat next to Gong Yue so that they could take a look at the menu together. It was at this moment that Ye Shanshan suddenly sensed something bright and shining flashing past the corner of his eyes.

The sense of danger made Ye Shanshan’s heart shrink. At an instant, he threw himself on Gong Yue and pressed him down, and the two fell under the table together.

“Sniper!”

The word barely came out of his mouth before there was a “bang” sound of a gunshot. Ye Shanshan could clearly see that a bullet hit the place where they had just sat, and some of the scattered debris even fell on his skin, bringing a layer of tingling pain.

At the same time he pounced on Gong Yue, Gong Yue responded immediately. The first action he did was to cover Ye Shanshan’s ears with his hands.

After the first shot, the bodyguards on the side quickly surrounded Gong Yue and Ye Shanshan to protect them.

Ye Shanshan panted, his chest heaving. The previous attack practically consumed the explosive power of his whole body’s muscles. Looking at the bullet mark—— if he hadn’t thrown Gong Yue down at that time, the bullet would’ve passed directly through Gong Yue’s head.

As soon as he thought of this picture, his heart pulsed chaotically. Surveying the surroundings, Ye Shanshan’s voice was deeper than usual:

“Four o’clock, within 1,100 meters.”

These few words had no beginning nor an end, but several bodyguards quickly understood them and swiftly left the restaurant and ran in the direction Ye Shanshan said.

With a gun in his hand, the captain of the bodyguards stepped back and approached them, “You two, please—” Before he could finish the sentence, he watched Ye Shanshan suddenly turned pale and grabbed his A11 pistol, raised his hands flatly, and clenched it tightly. “ Bang, bang, bang !” He fired three shots in one direction. The sound of gunfire was deafening. * bang : 砰 [pēnɡ] – An onomatopoeia for slam or bang sounds. It is actually only repeated twice in the raws, but I repeated it thrice to match the three gunshots Shanshan made.

The enemy in the dark was obviously pressing the trigger but was interrupted by Ye Shanshan, and the bullet directly hit the chandelier on the ceiling. The huge crystal chandelier shook and made a “ swooshing ” sound. The shattered glass dregs fell radiantly. * swooshing : 哗哗 [huā huā] – Onomatopoeia for swooshing or sound of gurgling water.

Thinking that the unstable large chandelier might cause problems, Ye Shanshan quickly raised his head and aimed. He fired again, and the whole chandelier fell and broke into pieces on the ground.

Ye Shanshan’s series of actions were like moving clouds and flowing water . His eyes narrowed slightly. Although the fierce gunfire made his ears buzz, he still focused on listening to the sounds around him —— other than the sniper at the beginning and the man he just shot, there must be others left. * moving clouds and flowing water : 行云流水 – Figuratively, it means to be very natural, fluent, smooth, or unforced. In this case, Shanshan moves very naturally, as if he was very skilled/experienced in using a gun.

It was just that they were lying in the open and the enemy’s in the dark, which was troublesome. But at times like this, Ye Shanshan was not afraid of trouble.

About half a minute later, a very small sound startled Ye Shanshan’s eardrums. His reaction was extremely fast. He jumped up to bypass the “wall” composed of bodyguards, dodged at the moment of landing, and then fired two shots at a corner.

With a muffled grunt, a man suddenly fell to the ground. The wounds on his left and right leg were bleeding —— Ye Shanshan shot at the person’s legs very accurately, it was even in the same horizontal position.

Seeing this situation, the bodyguard next to him quickly made a few more shots to the opponent’s hand. After confirming that the man had lost his mobility, he went up and dragged the man over.

Ye Shanshan breathed a sigh, saying with a tense voice, “There may be more.”

By this time, his arms were numb. The A11’s recoil was too strong. Although he was born with good innate conditions and his reaction time was similar to those of mercenaries, but he did not have any special training and his physical fitness could not keep up. He was overwhelmed after firing five or six shots in a row.

However, he did not dare to put down the gun because Gong Yue stood behind him. He was afraid that if he put down the weapon in his hand, someone would take the opportunity to kill Gong Yue.

His golden thighs is not someone everyone can just shot. * golden thighs : Referring to someone who is capable, whether intellectually, financially, physically, and so on, whom arouses people’s desire to clung into to have a smooth-sailing life. (I think I already explained this before, but here’s a clearer definition anyway.)

It was unclear how much time had passed when they heard a lot of noise from afar.

“Arrange a few people and go out to meet them.”

Who knew since when was Gong Yue standing closely behind Ye Shanshan, but at this time he stepped forward and held Ye Shanshan’s waist with one hand, and his gun with the other hand.

After covering him with his palms, he found that Ye Shanshan’s arms were shaking uncontrollably and his muscles were tensed to the extreme, almost tearing. However, he held the gun firmly enough to deal with any threat to Gong Yue’s life.

At this moment, Gong Yue suddenly experienced what it means to be “protected,” and at the same time, he also felt distressed.

“It’s over, Shanshan.” He had no idea how gentle his tone was. “The people outside have already caught the sniper and the three others. It’s safe now.”

Hearing what he said, Ye Shanshan’s hand which held the gun finally loosened. He turned his head and looked at Gong Yue who was holding him from behind, his hair brushing against the other’s chin. “You know?”

Although it was a question, the tone was very certain.

Gong Yue nodded, “En. Let’s go back and talk.”

Listening to him say so, Ye Shanshan also did not ask again. In terms of tacit understanding, he and the great demon king could participate in all kinds of “ two minds as one ” or “ you draw, I guess ” and so on competitions, and win directly without explanation. * two minds as one : 心有灵犀 – From the idiom 心有灵犀一点通 which means that the hearts linked as one, just as the proverbial rhinoceros communicates emotion telepathically through his single horn (Yabla). Figuratively, it means to have mutual sensitivity or tacit understanding.
* you draw, I guess : Referenced to popular games in variety shows where one part of a pair draws something related to a given theme or question, while the other half of the pair answers or guess the drawing.

Rubbing his sour arms, Ye Shanshan did not return the gun. In his heart, he didn’t quite believe in those bodyguards who cost a lot of money to hire. After all, if he really waited for those bodyguards to react, Gong Yue might’ve already been shot into a hornet’s nest by the snipers.

Ye Shanshan shook his aching wrists and inwardly sighed. Alas, it was lonely to be too strong , ah! * it was lonely to be too strong : In reference to the idea that those at the top are often destined to be alone, either because they are too strong and no one can match them, or because they choose to be (as in believing that only those who are alone can be the strongest).

——At this moment, he suddenly understood how Dugu Qiubai felt. * Dugu Qiubai : A fictional character mentioned in three wuxia novels written by Jin Yong. He was a very powerful swordsman who was looking for a man who could defeat him, thus the name “Qiubai” (means to seek defeat).

Seeing that Gong Yue was talking to the bodyguard captain, Ye Shanshan sat back at the dining table. He felt relieved knowing that Gong Yue had been prepared from the beginning.

After flipping through the menu, Ye Shanshan had a bitter face. A good meal was gone just like that. Was it still possible to eat to his heart’s content?

Really wanna cry from hunger!
